Flood Cleaning Kit Donations Needed

Flood Bucket Donations Needed

Tuesday September 5, 2017

Dear St. John's friends and neighbors:

We will wrap up our Flood Bucket Mission this Wednesday, September 6 at 6:30 p.m., following Heavenly Hash dinner. Completed buckets and supplies will be taken to Broadmoor UMC for distribution in southwest Louisiana ASAP.

Take the list below with you as you go shopping for supplies. It can be difficult to locate all the necessary items, so we encourage you to focus on purchasing 2-3 particular items, as you are able. We also welcome items in bulk. Check Dollar Tree and Dollar General for the best deals. Please note the size needed for each item and shop accordingly.

Please bring your donations to Heavenly Hash this Wednesday. You can also drop off donations anytime during regular office hours tomorrow from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. We will gather for dinner at 6:00pm and bucket assembling begins at 6:30pm. All are welcome at dinner.

This is a mission project for all ages!
While many young children participated last week as we sorted and assembled flood buckets, a nursery will be provided, should your family need it.

Dear St. John's friends and neighbors:

As Texas and potentially southwest Louisiana now suffer from flooding, I write to ask that you would once again live out your faith in being connected as the body of Christ. We hold these communities in prayer, but also there is an imperative opportunity to act in a tangible way.

We need help collecting flood bucket supplies. We will begin assembling these relief buckets this Wednesday, August 30, following Heavenly Hash Dinner at 6 p.m. We will continue assembling buckets the following Wednesday, September 6, as additional donations are received. They will be taken to Broadmoor UMC on Thursday of each week for immediate distribution via UMCOR (The United Methodist Committee on Relief).

You will find a complete list of items that make up a Flood Bucket below. It can be difficult to locate all the necessary items, so we encourage you to focus on purchasing 2-3 particular items, as you are able. We also welcome items in bulk. Check Dollar Tree and Dollar General for the best deals. (Sunday School classes and small groups will be contacted directly about collecting specifically assigned items.)

We ask that you act quickly so that buckets can be distributed right away. Please bring your donations to Heavenly Hash this Wednesday. You can also drop off donations anytime during regular office hours (Monday to Thursday, 9 a.m.-4 p.m.) and on Sunday morning. And then join us on Wednesday evening as we gather after dinner to assemble the buckets.

As Texas and Louisiana prepare for Hurricane Harvey to make landfall, we will begin collecting items for "Cleaning Kits" (A.K.A. "flood buckets") that will be distributed by the United Methodist Committee On Relief (UMCOR). These supplies enable people to begin the overwhelming job of cleaning up after a flood or hurricane. A list of needed supplies can be found below. We will have tubs available at the church for any items you are able to donate.

Please hold our brothers and sisters in the storm's path in your prayers today and in the days to come. We also encourage you to make the necessary preparations for you and your loved ones in the event that Hurricane Harvey heads in our direction next week.

If you would like to make a monetary donation toward the storm relief efforts, donations will be channeled through UMCOR (the United Methodist Committee on Relief); 100% of donations given through UMCOR go directly to those in need. Please mark your check with "Storm Relief" in the memo. You may also donate online by clicking here. Please type "Storm Relief" in the donation field, ensuring your gift goes to the right place.

Service is at the heart of our mission here at St. John's. Thank you for helping us live that out in tangible ways.

See you Sunday,
Pastor Lane
