SPRC Announcement: Pastor Lane

Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ:

As many of you know, the United Methodist Church uses an itinerant system in the assignment of pastors to churches. Appointments are made on an annual basis by the Bishop and Cabinet.

It is with much pleasure and excitement that I can announce Rev. Lane Cotton Winn will be joining our St. John's church family as our new Senior Pastor in July. I know that you will find Rev. Winn's experience and passion for the church will be second to none. While there is still much work to be done as we continue to grow here at St. John's, this is a great step in achieving goals as a Church family.

A copy of Rev. Winn's bio follows this letter so you can read more about her experience and accomplishments serving the United Methodist community.

St. John's has been blessed with Rev. Jay Hogewood for the past 3 years. Our church family here at St. John's will miss him and we are very thankful and blessed for his love and support of our church. As he announced earlier in the week, Rev. Jay has been appointed to Senior Pastor of Rayne Memorial UMC in New Orleans, LA.

As we prepare for this time of transition and continue work, I ask that you please be in prayer for the Winn and Hogewood families.

Yours in Christ,
Stephanie Worthy

Bio of Lane Cotton Winn

Pastor Lane Cotton WinnAs a lifelong United Methodist and the daughter of two pastors, Lane has been immersed in the life of Louisiana Methodism from her earliest of days. Through the itinerancy, Lane grew up in churches across south Louisiana, but she calls New Orleans home. She first began to hear whispers of her call to ministry during high school while active in the youth group at Munholland United Methodist Church in Metairie.

Commissioned a provisional elder in 2008, Lane's first appointment was as the Associate Pastor at First UMC, Amite, where she served for two years. In 2010, Lane was appointed as one of the pastors at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Slidell, and was ordained in 2011. She has served as the Senior Pastor of Pearl River UMC since 2014. Lane is committed to the local church, and has a passion for helping connect people to Christ through service, worship, and growth opportunities.

Lane thrives in the ever-changing, diverse experiences ministry offers and has a heart for social justice, living life with an open heart and an open mind. She is a life-long learner and strives for excellence in all that she does. To that end, she is currently engaged in the Advancing Pastoral Leadership (APL) program, a five-year intensive training for Young Adult Clergy.

Lane and her husband, Ben Hartman, were introduced by dear mutual friends and have been married since 2009. Ben has a Master's Degree in Educational Leadership and currently teaches sixth grade at Mandeville Middle School.Ben grew up on his family's farm outside of Atlanta, where his parents still reside. Lane and Ben have a four-year-old daughter, named Julian, and a four-legged "golden doodle" named Hagrid. Both Julian and Hagrid are kind-hearted and quite precocious.

Lane and Ben share a passion for travel, an appetite for delicious foods, an ear for good music, and enjoy the company of family and friends...including the new friends and family they hope to make through St. John's United Methodist Church.

  Be Welcomed. Be Loved.

We are a Christian community called to share our gifts through worship, witness and service so that others will know God and become disciples of Jesus Christ.
