Starting June 9, we will delve into some of the more bizarre passages in the Bible – the ones that make us think, “What on earth?” Along the way, we’ll see how even the strangest parts of the Bible reveal God’s nature to us and encourage and strengthen our faith.

Join us on Sundays this summer for TED Talk Theology in the sanctuary from 9:55-10:45am, as we view TED Talks through the lens of our faith. As many of our adult classes take a break in the summer, this churchwide offering is a way to bring us all together for spiritual formation, fellowship, and great conversation. Each week we will watch a different TED talk, read a corresponding passage of scripture, and discuss what they say to each other and to us about our faith and life.
TED is a nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading, usually in the form of short, powerful talks (18 minutes or less). TED began in 1984 as a conference where Technology, Entertainment and Design converged, and today covers almost all topics from science to business to global issues and more. TED Talks are designed to stir your curiosity, make great ideas accessible, and to spark conversation, which is also what a life of faith shared in community is all about, too!
TED Talk Theology starts on May 26 and concludes July 28. A team of facilitators will rotate leading each eek. Whether you’re a regular Sunday School attendee or haven’t tried Sunday School out yet, this is great opportunity to build relationships – with one another and with God. Come weekly or come when you can! All are welcome.

Jesus’ followers gather in churches of many different varieties: Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian,
Nondenominational, and so on. St. John’s identity is rooted in The United Methodist Church.
What is unique about being a United Methodist Christian and why does it matter? Beginning
April 14, join us as we explore the possibilities and practices of being United Methodist through
our “Uniquely UMC” worship series.

We are excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for our 2024 Summer Internships!
Two positions are available: one youth ministry intern and one children’s ministry intern. Youth ministry involves working closely with students in 6th – 12th grades while children’s ministry involves working closely with students in 5th grade and younger.
Each internship spans 13-weeks throughout the summer, with the expectation of working at least 20 hours each week – including Sunday mornings from 8 a.m. – 12:15 p.m. These positions are designed for young adults who have a passion for ministry with children and youth and/or may be exploring a call to ministry by providing an opportunity to lead young believers in their spiritual formation through dynamic programming. It is a great opportunity to gain valuable ministry and leadership experience!
We are looking for individuals who have a desire to learn, serve and encourage others in a local church setting. This is a great opportunity for those majoring in education and humanities, but all degree programs are welcome.
Each intern will receive $2,000, to be paid semi-monthly (15th & 30th of each month) during the 13-week internship.
Anyone who is interested should send a cover letter, resume, and the contact information of at least two references to jobs@stjohnsbr.org by April 15, 2024.

Join us on a Lenten journey where we will discover what it means to know that we are “good enough,” where we give ourselves grace, and we accept that life is imperfect and that’s ok. What if we stopped striving for unattainable ideals and started fertilizing, watering, and blooming right where we find ourselves? Welcome to a Lent of affirming a faith in which we are blessed, regardless, and where we can lean into embracing our “good enough” lives. The series begins on Sunday, February 18 with a message from Pastor Lane.
We will use the book Good Enough: 40’ish Devotionals for a Life of Imperfection, by Kate Bowler and Jessica Riche, as the companion for our Lent worship series. Each week we will highlight a concept from the book that ties into the scripture reading for that Sunday. If you want to go deeper, you can purchase your own copy of Good Enough: 40’ish Devotionals for a Life of Imperfection. For those who have elected to read the devotions on a daily basis, there is a copy of a suggested reading list in the Narthex, in the hallway of the Admin/Edu Building, or you may download it here.
There is a leader guide that was sent to small group leaders who may be interested in using the book during Lent in their classes.
