Adult Sunday School Classes

St. John’s has an extensive Sunday School program.  Guests and new members are welcome in all of our classes. Many of our classes are meeting in person on Sunday mornings from 9:45 to 10:45.

Connections

Connections meets in the Founders’ Parlor in the Education building.
  • This energetic class is guided by a weekly lesson selected from a publication known as The Wired Word. The mission of The Wired Word is to supply churches with solid scriptural material to help facilitate spirited group discussions about important matters of faith raised by news and current events. The information is not limited to a particular Christian denomination and provides a jumping-off place for engaging discussion. We are a passionate and volunteer-oriented group. All are welcome!

Genesis

Genesis meets in room 205 of the Education building.
  • We are a group of adults in our 50s and 60s, but people of all ages are welcome! We are a laid-back crew, sometimes well-organized and sometimes winging-it, but never at a loss for something to discuss. We don’t always agree, which is the best part. Topics are wide-ranging (anything that makes us think) and various lesson formats are used, including books, Bible studies, online resources, or self-created studies. Leaders/facilitators rotate on a volunteer basis. We enjoy social activities and the occasional Sunday School trip.

Love is Love

Love is Love meets in room 206 of the Education building.
  • Recognized by Reconciling Ministries Network as a Reconciling Community, the Love is Love Sunday School class represents and embraces all God’s children as persons of sacred worth. We welcome and affirm people of every gender identity, gender expression, and sexual orientation, who are also of every age, race, ethnicity, physical and mental ability, education level, and family structure, and of every economic, immigration, marital, and social status. We commit to pursuing justice and pledge to stand in solidarity with all who are marginalized and oppressed. In the full expression of the radically transforming and all-inclusive love of God as revealed through Jesus Christ, all are welcome!

Revelation

Revelation meets in room E of the Family Life Center.
  • We are a group driven by the desire to understand Scripture better. Our class is structured to study the whole Bible from Genesis to Revelation, using various study series. We are now studying the New Testament with N. T. Wright’s Bible for Everyone series until we complete Revelation. After that, we will decide what curriculum to use, beginning with Genesis again. There is a small amount of homework each week to facilitate our discussions from the For Everyone Bible Study Guide. As a change of pace, we have also used video lecture series from The Great Courses. Everyone is invited to join us during the Sunday School hour for a deeper dive into Scripture with friendly and lively discussions.

Seekers

Seekers meet in the Library in the Education building.
  • Adults of all ages learn and share together in the Seekers class, through an open and supportive atmosphere. Studies include Biblical teachings from various authors and occasionally other current topics of interest. In support of the St. John’s U.M.C. vision, we are the sponsors of the Wildwood Elementary Initiative and assist The Shepherd’s Market and Habitat for Humanity, among other missions. We invite people of all ages to join our group!

Sojourners

Sojourners meet in room B of the Family Life Center.
  • This group of adults, singles, and couples across different generations, are sojourning together in our faith. We enjoy Bible studies that help us better understand the connection between us, our community, and the 21st century world through book studies and The Wired Word study series. We support several local and international philanthropies. We also enjoy an annual group social around Epiphany. We would love to have you be part of our sojourning group.
