Mission to St. Mark’s Fall 2019

Mission to St. Mark's Fall 2019

St. John’s next mission to St. Mark’s in New Orleans will be a one-day mission on Sunday, August 25. For those of you who could not go on the three-day mission, this will be an excellent opportunity to participate. (This mission will not include a rebuild and repair portion that we provide in the spring mission.)

Six to eight volunteers are needed for early morning meal preparation. Volunteers helping with the meal preparation will be leaving St. John’s at 5:30 a.m. in order to get the meal ready to serve after the worship service. Transportation will be coordinated for those departing at 5:30. Most of the costs for this meal have been provided through the generous donations of St John’s members and the UMW during the earlier spring mission. For more information on the meal prep, contact Kathleen Adams at 921-2664.

Other volunteers may join the mission later in the morning to help with worship and serve the meal. These folks, using their own transportation, should plan to arrive at St. Mark’s by 9 a.m.

While there is no cost to participate, ALL VOLUNTEERS must register with Rev. Larry Norman at 933-1881.

Children’s Sunday School Summer Mission Project

Children's Sunday School Summer Mission Project

For a mission project, our children’s Sunday school classes are collecting new and gently used shoes of all types and sizes to donate to Soles4Souls.org. About 300 million people in the world don’t have shoes to wear, and the children of St. John’s want to do something about it. Kids outgrow shoes so fast sometimes their shoes are still in pretty good shape when it is time to buy another size, and even adults have shoes we no longer wear. This mission project will help give those shoes new lives with people who need them. During Sunday school this summer, our children will play some shoe games, graph how many shoes they own, and make cardboard shoes like some of the poorest in the world do.

There will a blue tub in the narthex and in the hallway of the Admin Building to place your donations. Please have all donated shoes at the church by August 31, when our shoe drive will end. Thank you!
